The Auto Retail Network FRANCHISING REPORT, sponsored by MSXi and Urban Science, has been fully updated for 2022 and remains the only complete guide to the structure and sales performance of franchised auto retail networks in the UK.

Included in the 2022 report are return on sales figures for all major UK franchises, detailed analysis of fleet and retail registrations by brand and new car sales forecasts from IHS Automotive through to 2023.

Plus the latest NFDA Dealer Attitude Survey results and franchise value ratings. Also included is expanded information for each manufacturer listing that includes term in office for the brand’s managing director.

The Franchising Report 2022 also includes data on the historic performance of network sizes by brand including future trend analysis, the rolling three-year vehicle parc by brand, franchise investment analysis and average CO2 figures by brand.

NEW FOR THIS YEAR:

The 2022 report sees the addition of several new topics and increased coverage for some existing sections.

With the increasing number of manufacturers investigating the move from franchised to agency agreements we’ve put together an update of all the brands’ plans so far. This provides an easy reference guide to who’s doing what in agency and direct sales both in the UK and abroad.

The increasing importance and profitability of LCV sales has meant we’ve beefed up our commercial vehicle data and analysis as well as adding van brands to our main brand data section.

The third new area of analysis looks at the growth in EVs and the requirements franchises are subject to look after these cars such as minimum standards for charging points.

On top of the historic core points and the new additions, the Auto Retail Network Index, which aggregates a host of metrics covering both the cost to run a franchise, its profitability, investment levels and how easy it is to do business with the NSC, has been updated for the 2022 report taking into account the Covid-19 pandemic’s impact on auto retail and the supply constraints the whole sector has suffered from.

The report also includes details of new car sales points and authorised repairers by carmaker, giving a complete picture of the current state of UK franchise networks. It also provides forecasts for the coming 12 months, with details of network opportunities and projected vehicle throughput per retailer. Additionally, the report contains exclusive analysis of new car warranty and service plans plus a vital contacts section.

Franchising Report 2022 data has been sourced directly from carmakers, other definitive industry sources and personally checked by Auto Retail Network researchers.
